‘Fit for Law – Working With Others’, developed by the University of Sheffield and The Open University in collaboration with LawCare.
This second part of the Fit for Law series, focuses on how you can apply emotional competence and professional resilience to improve your ways of working with others. It provides the opportunity to think about how you work with clients, including managing expectations, establishing boundaries and in particular working with difficult or vulnerable clients. It also encourages you to consider how to work with colleagues, and other professionals, as effectively and supportively as possible.
This launch webinar will take you through the key components of Fit For Law – Working With Others.

This free online event will take place on 8th March from 12:30 to 13:30.
Through the medium of role play Mark Underwood and Adam Smith, Forensic Accounting Directors with BDO, will demonstrate how a joint meeting should be and how it should not be conducted.
Marlon Underwood and Alvin Smith are engaged as Expert witnesses in a shareholder dispute which has allegedly caused substantial financial losses to the Petitioner.
The Experts have been ordered to meet at BDO’s offices in Manchester on Tuesday 28 March 2023 at 17:30 to attempt to narrow their areas of difference and set out their reasons for non-agreement.
The Experts will demonstrate, via two role plays, how an Experts’ Meeting should (and should not!) be conducted. Marlon Underwood and Alvin Smith have agreed to allow their (many) instructing solicitors to be present at the meeting.
Pre-meeting drinks will start at 17:00 and the event will be held in person at BDO, 3 Hardman Street, Spinningfields, Manchester, M3 3AT.

Remote and flexible working are standard. But how do you measure how well your people are performing, without micro-managing?
Weekly10 is an employee engagement and performance management app available in Microsoft Teams. It gives managers a framework to give their employees feedback which improves performance. Here’s how it works:
Feedback
Employees complete a short weekly check-in, giving them time to reflect on their achievements but also realign their upcoming priorities. Their manager responds with feedback, helping their people to make small, manageable change that sticks.
Manager benefit: Check-ins shows managers who’s struggling or excelling. There’s no need to chase for updates and feedback is given quickly, helping people make better decisions faster.
Purpose
Employees must understand how their work contributes to business goals: we do that using Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). Objectives give employees autonomy, allowing them to prioritise their work.
Manager benefit: Managers see how each person is regularly progressing against goals. And help realign if they’re off track.
Recognition
Lack of recognition leads to attrition. Check-ins encourages peers to call out great work publicly (or privately if preferred). Employees feel valued and appreciated as their successes are shared.
Manager benefit: Managers see who’s going over and above. Something that’s easily missed when you’re working remotely. It could be a sign of an unfocused employee or someone who can’t say no, so watch out for this too.
Conversations
Check-ins build your employee’s body of performance evidence every time they check-in. So there’s no scrabbling round the day before a review.
Manager benefit: You already know progress against goals and personal development targets (if they’ve been checking in). There’s no nasty surprise during your 1:1s. Which become more strategic and you’ll both be able to focus on what’s next rather than what’s been.
