It is with great sadness that Glaisyers ETL announces the passing of its managing partner, Dave Marlor, after a period of illness, at the age of 43.

Dave joined Glaisyers in 2018 when, alongside the firm’s executive partner, David Jones, he led a management buy-in at the Manchester law firm. In addition to his role as managing partner he also headed the firm’s property team.

Prior to joining Glaisyers, Dave spent 15 years at Kuit Steinart Levy in Manchester, having completed his law degree at the University of Leicester in 2001.

David Jones said, “Dave was our friend, colleague and leader. He wasn’t just our managing partner, he was our inspiration and moral compass.

“He led Glaisyers through Brexit, a global pandemic and general macro-economic malaise. He did so with a smile, a quiet confidence, generosity and a touch of verve.

“Dave’s love of impractical cars and trucks (TVR and GMC mechanics all over the North West will mourn his loss), baked good and, above all, his dear wife Sam, were legendary. We send our deepest condolences to her, his parents and his brother Andy.

“Whilst we can’t believe he has really gone, we will endeavour to keep his legacy going. We will remember to ask, ‘What would Dave do/say?’ as often as possible.”

A book of condolence, for those who would like to share their memories of Dave, is open here.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) have been investigating unregulated will-writing, online divorce and pre-paid probate services, details of which can be found here

This is a consumer protection investigation focused on the application of consumer law, rather than whether will-writing should be regulated or not. The CMA is trying to identify problems, such as mis selling, and to seek redress for consumers.

If anyone would like to take part in the investigation, they can get in touch via UnregulatedLegalServicesTeam@cma.gov.uk by 4 September 2023. The team at the CMA are also particularly interested in hearing directly from consumers who have had poor experiences.

Further updates as part of this investigation will be published on the CMA Unregulated Legal Services Case Page.
