Diversity within law firms is continuing to slowly improve year-on-year, with smaller firms increasingly more diverse than larger ones.

These are among the key findings the SRA have published following their latest collection of diversity data from more than 8,700 law firms employing more than 180,000 people across England and Wales.

Read more details about their findings here. You can also see how your firm is performing by using their comparison tool to benchmark how you compare to similar firms in the profession.

On 16th February the Office for Legal Complaints (OLC) launched a consultation on proposed changes to its Scheme Rules.

The Scheme Rules set out the legal framework under which the Legal Ombudsman operates. They underpin both the Ombudsman process and the decisions made by the operational teams.

The consultation, which follows the most comprehensive review of the Scheme Rules since 2012, is an important milestone in the Legal Ombudsman’s two-year programme of recovery outlined in the 2021/22 Business Plan. The Legal Ombudsman has faced significant challenges in recent years which has resulted in a substantial backlog of complaints and unacceptable customer journey times.

The review reflects on the considerable focus the Legal Ombudsman has given to identifying operational improvements which will help achieve a sustainable performance and provide a better standard of service for both consumers and legal service providers. Analysis undertaken by the Legal Ombudsman has shown that the current Scheme Rules do not afford the service the flexibility required to execute minimal formality in the complaints process and are needlessly lengthening customer journey times. The consultation identifies a number of opportunities to improve the customer experience, enhance operational effectiveness, and remove historic obstacles to resolving cases efficiently.

The consultation is open for eight weeks and closes at 12pm on Wednesday 13 April 2022.

You can read more about the consultation here.

MLS Advantage
91.1 billion visits to Google in January 20221, over 252,000 new websites being developed each day2, almost 4 billion3 active social media users and billions4 of annual voice commands on smart speakers. It can be very easy to become overwhelmed with just how much is happening online and the exponential growth in both usage and technology.

Then you throw in super smart (and often good looking) confident young people talking about the benefits of democratisation in Web3, extended reality (XR), the qubits of computational power in quantum computers or the newest NFT they are thinking about investing in. All the while you may just be trying to wrap your head around why for love or money you can’t get this AI bot to pass you on to an actual agent that can help you understand the latest invoice.  And that’s all before we even mention ‘the metaverse’!

At Conscious we have been fortunate to have seen a lot of internet trends come and go. Some of those trends had a real impact on how the online world operates, while others were quickly put on the digital dump of oblivion (remember Google+ anybody?).

So how exactly can you future-proof your digital marketing strategy?

We believe it starts with having a specific objective (preferably ambitious). Once you have something to aim for, a digital strategy must include measures to mitigate against accidental and/or nefarious threat, such as a data leakage. Thirdly, we believe that a great digital marketing strategy is one that can discern between the allure of ‘the trendy’ and the advantages of valuable new developments such as web personalisation software. Finally the strategy must always remain focussed on the business objectives.

If that still sounds confusing come and join us in IRL (well sort of, on Zoom) at one of our monthly Conscious Conversations on the last Thursday of each month, where our team of experts will chat about all things digital marketing for law firms and answer questions you have been trying to figure out. This month we are talking about getting the most out of your social media.
