Funded by the Manchester Law & Technology Initiative (an academic-industry collaborative consortium) and delivered in partnership with The Law Society of England & Wales, this is the first academic analysis of attitudes towards digitisation of legal services conducted across a broad spectrum of legal practitioners.
This event brings the academics leading the study together with The Law Society to present the findings and initiate discussion into its implications.
This free event takes place in person on Wednesday 28th June from 10:00 to 13:00 at Alliance Manchester Business School Booth Street West Manchester M15 6PB

Today is the day - as you read this MLS President Nick Johnson and Vice President David Anderson will be walking The Peaks Challenge with We Love MCR. On what is likely to be a much warmer day than they imagined when they signed up!
They will re-trace the steps of The Kinder Scout Trespassers, working-class Mancunians who put their liberty on the line to establish the right to roam.
Find out why Nick chose We Love MCR to be his charity of the year and donate to their fundraising here.

The world of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) is a complex one, often characterised by extensive administrative requirements that can often divert crucial resources away from strategic decision-making. The tasks of conducting Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, managing escrow arrangements, and acting as a paying agent, while crucial for successful transactions, can weigh heavily on law firms.
KYC procedures, the critical gatekeepers against fraudulent activities, are notoriously time-consuming and intricate. These involve rigorous collection and verification of client data, a task amplified in M&A transactions with multiple stakeholders. Coupled with the need for safeguarding and disbursing funds, these administrative demands can stretch the resources of even the most efficient law firms.
However, changing perspectives can shift these challenges into opportunities. In an age where technology is revolutionising industries, automating these crucial areas holds tremendous potential for enhancing efficiency and accuracy in M&A transactions.
Automated KYC procedures can streamline data collection, minimising manual intervention, reducing errors, and providing a smoother transaction experience. Meanwhile, digitising escrow and paying agent services can safeguard and disburse funds efficiently, providing real-time transparency and accountability.
This shift towards digitisation aligns with the ongoing technological revolution in the legal sector. By embracing this evolution, law firms can optimise their resources, focusing more on strategic aspects of M&A deals and enhancing client service.
Leading this transformation is Shieldpay, a regulated payment provider offering innovative digital payment solutions for law firms. By offering automated, tailored solutions, Shieldpay is enabling law firms to navigate the complexities of M&A transactions more efficiently.
From the verification of stakeholders to the secure holding of funds and their timely disbursement, Shieldpay's comprehensive services streamline the entire transaction process. This transition from manual, admin-heavy operations to streamlined, automated procedures represents a significant step forward for M&A transactions.
The future of M&A transactions is clear – it's digital, it's efficient, and it's transforming the landscape.
