As part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, this week our cyber risk management partner Mitigo are highlighting the importance of having a formal, structural data backup policy and procedure.
This not only ensures companies are operating in compliance with UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 but also helps protect against cyber threats.
Backing up data is the process of copying and safely storing data on a different network or server from that of the original. Critical company data should be regularly backed up, securely stored and archived accordingly. There are a few different ways of doing this as detailed in the infographic, but ideally the process should be automated to eliminate the risk of human error.
For best practice we recommend adopting a 3 2 1 system for your backups – that is: 3 copies of your data 2 backups stored in different locations 1 backup stored offsite
