Thank you to all those who attended the long awaited Well After Party last week at the Midland.
A great night was had by all celebrating the winners from the 2021 Manchester Legal Awards and getting in the mood for the 2022 Manchester Legal Awards Dinner.
Massive thanks again to our sponsor, Docutech Office Solutions for supporting a fabulous night.
And congratulations to the winners of the best photo competition: DWF's Regulatory team and winners of Regulatory Team of the Year 2021.
For more photos of the night keep your eyes peeled for the June edition of The Messenger!
The Law Society are calling for your help to support our campaign for the future of criminal legal aid. As you may know, the Government published its response to the Independent Review of Criminal Legal Aid in March. The proposals fall far short of what is needed to secure the future of our criminal legal aid system, putting forward 40% less investment than CLAIR recommended.
Please find the campaign briefing here. You can also get in touch with your local MP to urge them to raise this critical issue in Parliament. You can find a template letter here that you can customize and send to your MP and have also included a campaign briefing outlining the issues with the Government’s proposals. You can also see how badly affected your area is by the ageing of the solicitor profession here.
The Law Society will be responding to the Government’s ongoing consultation and are encouraging all solicitors to put their views forward as well. You can respond here – the consultation will be open until 7 June. After 25 years of cuts, our criminal justice system is in crisis. The Government must not miss this opportunity to put it on a stable footing and secure the future of criminal legal aid.

Blogs on this, articles on that, news items all around us, and the world continues to become even fuller of unfettered outputs.
We buy phones with enough capacity to fuel a 1960’s rocket to the moon, and within months we have thousands of pictures, hundreds of stories, emails, apps, and suddenly our boundless giga-bites have had their appetite stunted.
So, in a world of noise and chatter, a world of too much super highway information, it is vital to have a clear filter on what we read and consume.
There are just not enough hours in the day if not.
The new Court Reports Journal from Legal RSS has made some attempt to help here.
Bite-sized summaries of a whole range of court judgments are beginning to help lawyers who didn’t have as much time as they used to. These summaries are further filtered by discipline so that one can just focus on the area of law that it relevant. References to the full case are then available if the exact detail of the judgment is needed.
