The ancient Greek philosopher Socrates adopted a practise of asking anyone who would engage with him a series of questions. He claimed he asked these questions because he was ignorant but it’s possible that he was driven by a love for information, curiosity, and wisdom.

It seems Britons have doubled down on that belief, but no longer need to find a public square in Athens, all they need is a digital device that they can speak or type into.
According to Google Trends, internet users in Britain have never asked Google more questions than they are asking right now. Those questions are no longer just ‘how’ but questions starting with ‘why’ and ‘what’ have seen a sharp increase.

Google have responded and encouraged this surge in curiosity by not only launching a substantial paid media campaign to inspire even more search. But by rolling out a significant page experience algorithm change. What is known as Core Web Vitals (CWV) are a set of real-world, user-centric metrics that quantify key data-led aspects of the experience a user gets when they visit a website. CWV measures dimensions of web usability such as load time, interactivity, and the stability of page content as it loads.

These changes could have a real impact on your website, and you should be prepared to make changes to ensure it performs at its best. If it is important to you that your website shows in Google’s search results. The three elements of CWV are: First Input Delay, Largest Contentful Paint and Cumulative Layout Shift. Your website needs to score above the seventy fifth percentile to ‘pass’ these metrics and if it doesn’t, other websites will almost certainly be given priority in Google’s search result.

So, how will you respond to not only the increased online questions but the changing digital framework. Are you ready to take advantage of the opportunities?
