It’s a win-win as you’ll feel good about helping a charity but also enjoy the cathartic benefits of getting your thoughts off your chest!

Legmark have teamed up with St Ann’s Hospice who are based in Greater Manchester and support people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

What is an OKR?

OKR is short for Objectives and Key Results (KR). They’re a goal-setting framework that allows multiple people and teams to contribute to high level outcomes. They’re different from SMART goals as they encourage cross-team collaboration.

Objectives are short, aspirational, qualitative statements of what needs to be accomplished. They’re the high-level goals that determine company success. “Create the friendliest law practice in Manchester,” for example. Key Results measure progress and need a number and a timescale to be effective and measurable. You should have no more than 3 KRs per Objective.

How OKRs boost engagement

OKRs give each person and team direction and purpose. Everyone’s individual goals align to a company Objective. Because they’re aligned, employees can see how their work contributes. We feel more committed to our work and the company’s success.

Feeling like our work matters is a huge part of employee engagement. When you can't see the impact of your role, it's easy to become disengaged from it. After all, if your work doesn't make a difference, why bother?

OKRs help your people own their personal success. Employees are told the company Objectives and are then trusted to set their own goals that feed into the main Objectives.

OKRs help your people prioritise

Clear Objectives help your people to prioritise their workload. Work that contributes to meeting Objectives will always be more important than that which doesn’t.

If work’s being done outside of the Objectives, then it’s an indicator of two things: the wrong objectives have been set or your people don’t understand what’s expected. Because OKRs are typically set quarterly and reviewed every few weeks, it’s easy to understand what’s going wrong and get back on track. Managers can intervene earlier and provide guidance.
